2018 Recipients

Paddy Caffell

Paddy started attending Youth Alive Trust programmes as a 13 year old.  He didn’t have the easiest home life, and spent many hours at various YAT programmes to be in a fun, safe and supportive environment.  After living in the North Island for a few years, Paddy returned back to Christchurch with his wife, Sarah, and three children.  He started volunteering with the teens and intermediate aged programmes, and also started some part time work casual paid youthwork.  He is giving up his full time work in 2018, to do a youthwork internship with Praxis, to add the theory and frameworks to the practical youthwork that comes so naturally to him.  Paddy wears his heart on his sleeve and this helps him connect well with the young people and other leaders around him.  He has an authenticity and humility that is warm and and a high energy level that brings the fun factor. He will use the $5000 scholorship to pay for his tuition fees, and flights to the North Island Block Courses.  We wish Paddy all the very best throughout his course, and look forward to hearing about his experiences through his semi-regular blog posts. Follow Paddy’s Journey Here

Melissa Moore

Melissa has spent the past 5 years at various Youth Alive Trust programmes, including youth clubs, music programmes and events.  In the past couple of years she has taken on voluntary leadership roles, and works particularly well with the intermediate and young teenage girls.  After leaving school and working full time for a year, she is dedicating 2018 to learn new youthwork skills and work more intently with the young people on the east of Christchurch.  Melissa has a kind and warm personality that helps her connect well with the young people and other leaders around her. She is sporty and has experience coaching netball and organising teams.  She will be studying with Praxis, which is one day in class, one day of personal study and three days of practical youthwork.  She will use the $5000 scholorship to pay for her tuition fees, and flights to the North Island Block Courses.  We wish Melissa all the very best throughout her course, and look forward to hearing about her experiences through her semi-regular blog posts. Follow Melissa’s Journey Here
